Productivity – powered by Excel

You can scroll sideways using the mouse wheel. Just hold down Ctrl + Shift and start scrolling. Down goes right, and up goes left.

Remember you can also use Ctrl and the arrow keys, and end and home to jump around your spreadsheet much quicker than scrolling too.

Ctrl and arrow keys are one of the most under used short cut keys in Excel and can save SO much time. It drives me crazy to watch someone scroll and scroll down a sheet to get to the end. Sometimes, even after I have shown them the Ctrl and down arrow! Habits are hard to break.

To go to the end of your data (or the first gap if the column you are in does have gaps in it): Hold down Ctrl key, press down arrow. Instantly, you will be at the end of your data.

Ctrl + up arrow will take you to the top.

Ctrl + right arrow will take you to the right of your data.

Ctrl + left arrow will take you to the left of your data.

Ctrl + End will take you to the bottom right hand corner of your data (or where Excel thinks the end of the data is, sometimes if you have edited a cell and then deleted the data that will still be considered the end by Excel, or you might have formatting in a cell, but it is ’empty’)

Ctrl + Home will take you to cell A1. Unless you have freeze panes on – learn more about freeze panes here.

And don’t forget about the Navigation Pane, which is relatively new to Excel but can be a great way to move within the sheet, as well as between sheets. Read more about it here.
